PROJECT LIFESAVER

Project Lifesaver is a new program to Winchester Fire EMS in 2007. Its main goal is to provide search assistance to registered participants whom may wonder away from the home. Typically this is comprised of Alzheimers and Autistic persons. A coordinator from our department meets with the family and explains the details and program guidelines. A small radio transmitter is placed on the client. Each month the coordinator or other Fire EMS employee will come to change out the battery and check the system. The department has a signal locator which is specific to the clients transmitter. The radio signal is triangulated by multiple locators. Typical searches are 30 minutes compared to the average of 9 hours without the system. There is a small montly fee for the cost of battery replacement. More information can be obtained from Project Lifesaver International.

Knox Box Rapid Entry Systems

Winchester Fire EMS has implemented the Knox Box Fire Department Rapid Entry Systems. Certain business and industry must have this access system in place by Winchester city ordinance. It is a heavy gauge metal security box with a lock device. Inside would be the keys from the business or residence. The Winchester Fire Department has a unique key that accesses this box. In case of an emergency the first arriving unit can access this box without damaging windows or doors. A coordinator from the department can help with selection of an appropriate box and assist with placement location.

To learn more about the program and to see if you are required to have a Knox Box please call 859-744-1587 or e-mail noliver@winchesterky.com
